Resina
"A film not to be missed' EMPIRE ITALIA
PLOT: Young cellist Maria is disappointed by the ruthlessness of the music world. She returns to her native Alpine village, a small and isolated community where an ancient language is still spoken: Cimbric. There she finds a sick mother, news of her brother's death, a mourning sister-in-law facing a financial crisis and a small community struggling with the effects of climate change. Maria gets in touch with the once acclaimed local men’s choir, which is a shadow of its past glory. Quirino, the choir director, is the only one who still fights for the choir’s survival and dreams of entering a contest that will help them regain past glory. In order to do this, he asks Maria for help. She accepts the challenge, as she wants to find a new way to create music. A kaleidoscope of characters brings irony and rhythm to the tale of this small world, shaken by the determination of a young woman.

DIRECTOR NOTES:     RC

Renzo Carbonera, born in Latisana, near Udine, directed and wrote several historical documentaries; his short La penna di Hemingway premiered at the 2011 Venice Film Festival.

About Resina, Carbonera stated: it is a film about music, climate change, and the conflicted relationship we have with beauty. It is a film about a young woman in the world of men. It is a film that rediscovers a small mountain community that boasts a long history and a rich cultural tradition that risks disappearing into obscurity: the cimbric language.
