Valerio and his six-year-old son Carlo live in the attic of the house from which they were evicted. Whenever new tenants arrive, they terrorize them by staging the presence of ghosts, in the hope of returning to live in the apartment "below". For Carlo it is a game that protects him from a miserable life and an absent mother. And for a while it works, until Myriam arrives on the run with little Emma from an abusive husband. But she is not afraid of ghosts.
