PLOT: Mario Martone's personal journey into Massimo Troisi's cinema. By editing scenes from his films, Martone highlights Troisi as a great director of our cinema even before being a great comic actor. He outlines his artistic career from the beginning to the end, framing him in the climate of the years in which he trained and in the city shared by the two directors, Naples. With the editing of the films some conversations intersect with artists who loved Troisi and were influenced by him, such as Francesco Piccolo, Paolo Sorrentino, Ficarra and Picone, and critics who studied him, such as Goffredo Fofi, and two of the creators of his posthumous work, Il Postino, Michael Radford and Roberto Perpignani. In addition, Anna Pavignano who wrote films with Troisi and who Martone wants to meet to investigate the creative processes from which they arose; she collaborates on the film by making precious unpublished materials available.

Mario Martone, born in Naples in 1959, began his artistic career in the theatre, staging his first play in 1976. His cinematic debut was in 1980 with a short film and twelve years later his first feature film Morte di un matematico napoletano. Mario won the Nastro d'argento Best Director and Best Screenplay awards for Qui rido io.
Regarding his film Laggiù qualcuno mi ama, Martone said:"Massimo was a gift that the God of cinema and art gave to all of us. In him grace and power were united, in a beautiful and sweet human dimension that I don't know how to describe other than as a gift."
