Daniele Vicari was born in Castel del Tora in 1967. He was a film critic from 1990 to 1999 for two magazines, and made his first short film\i, Il nuovo, in 1991. He won the David di Donatello award for Best Documentary for Il mio paese and Best New Director for Velocita massimà. Regarding his film Orlando, Vicari said: "We are immersed in a world that changes so quickly that it escapes us. Sometimes even the very meaning of our existence escapes us. It has always been like this and even more so today. Luckily for us there are people who, remaining true to themselves, act as a compass for us, helping us not to get too lost. Orlando is dedicated to these people".
